Strip structure

The long stripes are perimeter, circulation and playing areas. This strategy creates a gradient of protection and comfort.

The short stripes define the position of the playing areas depending on how far they are form the entrances.

Games that are dynamic are placed in the middle, the safest area. Games that are more quite are placed on the sides, close to the entrances, which are the less safe areas.

Integration into a linear park

During the Olympics in 1992 a new front side for Barcelona. Passeig de Garcia Fària was part of it, with the aim to soften the height difference between the new fast highway parallel to the sea (Ronda Litoral) and Vil·la Olímpica, on the mountain side. The project is a design of Ravetllat-Ribas.

The project is 1,3 km long, divided in three linear stripes that combine green spaces with walking and cycling lanes. One of this green bubbles is transformed into a playground and has the strategy to be adapted in different spots.

Dynamic area

In the middle part, far from the entrances, the dynamic games are placed.

A little hill is a combination of games. The slide is the attraction point, but the hill also opens up to create a playful tunnel. Also climbing at different leves is possible and a bench to facilitate it is designed.

Quiet area

On the sides, which are close to the entrances, is where the quite games are located. This is where the more critical parts are, because the doors are opening and closing constantly, therefore the less movement is desirable to make it safer.

An accessible amphitheater, the musical games on one side. Sand games and a multifunctional table, on the other side.

Un munt de jocs, the previous phase

This project was the result of a public competition called “10 accessible playgrounds in Barcelona” and was awarded with the first price in group 3, typologies on a concrete slab. The two sites included in this group were “Passeig de Garcia Fària” at Sant Martí District and “Plaça Elisa Antonella” at Gràcia District.

The newspaper La Vanguardia published an article about this on 27th September 2022.
